Last week, i sent my car to install matspeed camshaft for my MIVEC engine. Actually this was an unplanned modification but since there was a promotion for this camshaft, i can say i ' accidently' bought it. haha. Pictures below.
Took out the OEM camshaft... first profile 228 IN 232 EX ; second profile 285 IN 300 EX
Fresh from the oven. LOL. The matspeed specification camshaft. I forgot the first profile spec ( maybe around 25+ IN 25+ EX ) ; but the second profile 306 IN and 304 EX.
almost done ....
DONE!
After that, i straightaway sent the car for dyno since i requested them to set the camshaft pulley on dyno machine ( i chose dyno dynamics roller ). Thank god the money spent is worth it. I managed to get 10whp increase. Overall i can say this camshaft is mild and not that aggressive if compare with JUN. The car still idle like standard and the engine wont stall even when i turn on the air-conditioning. No "brup brup" ( yeah actually a lil bit ) sounds if you get what i meant =D. I'm so happy with the increase in power. Thumbs Up!
bro off topic sikit.. wanna ask since u were last time a 4g93p user as well.. how much degree would u advice for bone stock internals 4g93 a daily ride.. im not into extreme level.. is 272/288 consider too much..?
ReplyDeleteHi aqinari. As for a daily ride, i would suggest you go for 272/272 (max 288/288) spec camshaft. I use it last time on my 93. The power delivery is very smooth. You will have good low end and mid range power which is suitable for daily driven car. If you go for higher duration, the powerband will move upward and you might lost low end power. Btw, if u intend to go more than 272 degrees, better get an EMS and FICD.
ReplyDeletep/s: after i used 272/272, i changed to 300/288. The high-end power is so much better but the low end power sucks. the engine became fuel guzzler. Other than that, the car cannot idle properly when i turned on the air-conditioning. absolutely not suitable for daily ride :)
Joe did it again!
ReplyDeleteGoing to 300 degree range. True monster class
lolx. mivec oem camshaft already 300 degrees on the exhaust. not monster la mr nazmi. just OTR mivec setup.
ReplyDeleteelo bro,how much u spent on that matspeed cam?n ur UR bar...where can i find ori 1 like yours?got some mny imatition now..haishh..n how much bro 4 front n rear?
ReplyDeletehi bro. the camshaft i bought for rm1800 inclusive installation- got promo at tht time. the bars i got both for rm300 :)
ReplyDeletebro,
ReplyDeleteJust want to know,do u use standard ecu to tune regrind matspeed cam?i heard if install aftermarket cam,we need to use standalone in order to best tune cam.
I only have emanage installed and plan to put matspeed cam. What ur best suggestion
hi bro.
ReplyDeleteActually i also use pigyback ems to tune my engine when i installed the camshaft :)
As for me, the piggyback such as e-manage is already enough for tuning a daily driven car but to have a fully standalone ems is an advantage.
hi, i plan to put tomei 280 in my 93p replace current powerzone camshaft (dun remember duration)
ReplyDeletei have em-con M7 installed, izit sufficient enough to tune when idling mode with air-con turn on?
can i ask something... i use 4g92... if i change head from single cam to twin cam, can its fix to my engine?
ReplyDeletedritz:
ReplyDeletehi there. sorry for the late reply. my browser seem to have some issue and i cant reply comment at that time. yes. it is sufficient since it it almost the same with e-manage :)
asbir:
hi bro. yup. yes you can. but need complete stuff such as wiring and ecu.
hi,
ReplyDeleteSy iskandar dari terengganu. i merancang untuk beli dan pasang cam matspeed untuk mivec sy. macam mana sy nak beli cam matspeed tu? kena tread in oem mivec cam? kalau sekarang ni berapa harga cam matspeed untuk mivec?
TQ. :)
hi iskandar.
ReplyDeleteboleh beli dr megat matspeed
http://www.facebook.com/pages/F3-MatSpeed/222966507766630
yup kene trade oem mivec camshaft.
last time rm1800. now x brapa sure.
bro,
ReplyDeletekalau tukar cam matspeed, kne tukar la valve spring retainer?
kebiasaan nye pkai valve spring apa ek? jun spec? or mat speed sndiri ada keluarkan valve spring tu? berapa lak harga?
huhuhu..... =)
hi iskandar,
ReplyDeletekena cari jun valve spring or rpw. matspeed x buat valve spring. xsure brapa harga tp kalo xsilap less than rm1k.
halo bro...saya nk guna 300/288, enjin dah buat, piston 83,blancing, prassure dlam 19bar..tp head xport, gear panjang2 takut rpm nik lambat..mcam mane bro rase?
ReplyDeletehi fahmi
ReplyDeletekalau enjin dh buat. no problem pkai cam high duration. lagi2 kalo engine compression dh tinggi mcm tu.
hye bro...i browse through ur blog and u have used both matspeed and june camshaft...which is better?im using 4g91 stock internal, only done full extractor and exhaust system...thinking of adding performance camshaft...and what is the increase of power?is it worth it?fyi i already have safc 5 button to go with it...and last question, after installing those camshaft, can my 4g91 cucuk belakang stock 4g93?hehe
ReplyDeletehi bro. i havent got the chance to use jun camshaft. just matspeed camshaft. about 4g91, it is a good engine and can be upgraded to be as fast as mivec and 93 if u have the parts, money and a good tuner. if u install hicam for 4g91, u can be as fast as the stock/mild 93 and with good tuning maybe stock mivec 1.6. but not camshaft alone. ecu tuning is important. safc 5 button is good but it will be much better if u have at least emanage since u can have a finer tuning and can also play with ignition. btw, there a lot of monster 4g91 in malaysia. one of it from d3 racing. the spec:
ReplyDelete-Specifically built to rev until 10500 rpm. Package includes JUN 304 Camshafts and valve spring, Skunk 2 Intake + 70mm Super90 TB,Golden Eagle Fuel Rail Kit, Billet Oil Pump Gear (Free Hardened), Head Assy (Ported by infamous NASTY PORT FLOW), D3 Customized Race Header, Haltech Sprint 500 ... horsepower is around 180whp.
wow that is too fast i think, dont really have the budget for that as the max i have is rm3k...furthermore i use this 4g91 for a daily commute between putrajaya and kl..just want a better responsive engine where sometimes i can tekan to 200km/h only hehe...it just that i dunno which is the best, plonking mivec pistons or adding performance cam (matspeed or duratec)...btw ur blog is so inspirational, i mean ur spirit towards modding, nice car u have there...happy modding bro! :)
ReplyDeletehi bro.
ReplyDeletefrom my experience, all the horsepower is hidden in the cylinder head. i think with 3k, go for fast road camshaft (below 288) and fine tune it with your safc 5 button. the engine will be much better.
thx again for the kind words bro. really appreciate it. at least i know that an enthusiast like you read my blog. thx again!
good luck in your 4g91 monster project :)
tq bro...btw i have already installed dura tech cam 272 deg both in/ex 10.85 lift with e manage (i dumped the safc)...dyno managed to get 108whp...without rev cut and only stock injector...plan to upgrade next month with ecu rechipping and 210cc injectors, hope to get mroe than 115whp... :)
ReplyDeletehi bro. wow duratech camshaft. that one is billet camshaft which is better than regrind camshaft but i heard duratech camshaft is hard to set up. don't know whether is true or not :P
ReplyDeletebtw, have u set up the camshaft with adjustable campulley during the dyno? or u just tune the emanage without setting up he campulley?
regards.
i dont use any adj campulley...just stock pulley...installing the cam and spring alone took more than 5 hours, jai from powerzone installed in and yes he tuned the emanage without adj campulley...the power kicks at 4500rpm, but sadly the rpm cut at 6.7-6.8 which does not fuly utilise the duratech cam powerband...so jai advised me to remove the rev cut and add bigger injector...
ReplyDeleteoic. i think powerzone tuners are one of the great tuner in malaysia. you should listen to his advice. maybe you can go for 240cc injectors taken from mivec. should be not more than 275cc if i'm not mistaken for 91.
ReplyDeletebro, nak tanya ada contact number PIC utk matspeed ni tak?
ReplyDeletesorry bro lambat reply. try contact matspeed thru fb page http://www.facebook.com/matspeed.cams
ReplyDeleteanyone can explain whats the differences between the 272 and 280 cams for 4g93 ? and where is the powerbands begins for the both cams? as I'm planning to buy JUN cams for tracking purpose.thx
ReplyDelete280 duration is much more than 272 which means better performance but harsher idle which is not good for daily driven car. but 280 can still consider ok.
DeleteBro, would appreciate if you could let me know where to buy Skunk 2 Intake Manifold for 4g93 ?
ReplyDeletethx.
hi bro. most performance part shops in sunway sell the intake. you can also buy it online (eg:mudah.my)
DeleteHi bro..
ReplyDeleteI have 4g13 vdo satria std pekak..i'll try to wake up a little monster in it..since you know lot better then me, so i need your suggestion..my friend told me to install matspeed 288 along with adj cam pulley & polish the head port..about valve spring, do i need to chance??if yes, what brand do you concern to it??
hi bro. start with basic modifications first. change your exhaust and intake setup. tuned length header, free flow muffler. change your stock air filter to a performance filter. after that you can go for more hardcore engine modification.
ReplyDeletebtw, if you wanna go for locally made performance cam, look for matspeed and powerzone. valve spring is a good upgrade if you planning to go for high lift and duration camshaft. below 272, upgrading your valve spring is not cumpulsory. higher than 288, better upgrade your valve spring
Hahaha..act, not really that pekak..piping i already change 1.8inch also the extractor 4-2-1..my friend suggest me to change matspeed 288..based on you, i should change the valve spring..i really dont know exactly the type of valve spring..could you suggest me on that?
Deletehi bro. if wanna change valve spring, you can get it from jasma(locally made) if u budget is tight. if you have a big budget, can go for rpw valve spring.
DeleteIs there any difference between those brand???
ReplyDeletejasma-locally made.
ReplyDeleterpw - australia.
Hi there,
ReplyDeletecool blog..
need some advice..
secondary car when primary in workshop, occasionally track it.
Current engine setup:
4g15 sohc with stroker kit
182cc injectors (already purchased 240cc and e-manage but yet to be installed)
4-2-1 hotbits extractor
2 inch pipping with build in bullet
s flow back box (not sure what to change it to)
Thinking of matspeed cams but not sure of duration 272/282/288..
Worried about the idling and aircond..
with 272 duration so i need to change the valve springs?
will be getting a fuel regulator. (so many brands, not sure)
Thank you.
kipasa
hi miguel. thanks for the compliments. btw, if you worried about idling and aircond, i think you need to choose any duration below 288. anything higher will make the engine idle hasher and might stall if you turn on the aircond.. unless you use standalone ems.
Deleteit is always good to change the valve spring to eliminate valve float at high rev when using high duration/lift cams. but for my opinion if you use 272, it is not a must. can still use stock valve spring.
Hi bro. Nice car project and its very informative. Im still a noob in car mods. I currently owning a waja 4g18 which i have done minimal mods. The mods done at the moment is having open pod, lighthen flywheel and also installation of racing exedy clutch 5 spoke. Also im planing to change my exhaust manifold to hitech 4-2-1 stainless steel which is meant for 4g93 model. I was advice install a high cam for my waja 4g18 engine which now im having difficulty to choose which good brand to install. The high cam degree im looking at is 280°. Need your advice on this matter. Thank best regards yogen
ReplyDeletehi bro. thank you for the compliments. really appreciate your feedback. on the other hand, if you are looking for good and reliable camshaft for you 4g18, i would say go for matspeed or powerzone. both is local brand but very good in making performance camshaft especially for proton. hope this help. it is advisable for you to upgrade your exhaust or intake first before installing performance camshaft.

DeleteThank you bro noted on that. Once the upgrade is done i will let you know.
ReplyDeleteHi bro.
ReplyDeleteI've got a engine for sale which I'm interested in.
4g93 with 81mm Mivec piston
Matspeed 300/288
Haltech sprint 500
I should able to drive my car on a daily basis. Is it this possible with the setup of the above?
hi shankar.
DeletePlease be informed that i have used the setup before but without standalone ecu (using pigggyback). from my experience you can still drive the car daily but quite hard sometimes especially during traffic jam and when u r turning on the aircond at the same time. Maybe the standalone ecu can help the engine during idle much better than using standard ecu or piggyback.

Nice blog and good to know it is still alive. Apreciate your advise on my engine. Currently my 4g93p overhauled and using toto 82mm high cp piston with emanage and 2" pipe. But i felt my car not willing to rev. So my next phase is to upgrade duratech 272 + ACP and go for proper tuning since never done after overhauled. Do you think upgrading camsharft will release more whp?
ReplyDeletehi bro :) sorry for the late reply.
DeleteYes! performance camshaft can increase your horsepower but with proper tuning and installation :)
Awesome read here.. thanks for sharing!! Can i check with you any dyno chart or data for stock vs duratech 272 cam? Would like to know if there is any drop in HP during low rpm (2.5k~4.5k) and how much the drop before the car go VROOOMM! Thank Q~
ReplyDeletehehe thanks bro. i am sorry i dont have the dyno chart for stcok cam vs duratech cam.
DeleteBro..u install matspeed cam when u still 1.6 mivec?
ReplyDeletenope. i installed the camshaft when using mivec 1.8.
DeleteWhen u install cam, head oledi pnp?if no pnp can install tis cam?
ReplyDeleteyou can install the cam eventhough the cylinder head is not yet pnp.
Deletebro...after u install matspeed cam , response mivec kick better or same oem cam ?
ReplyDeletedefinitely batter! :)
DeleteHi Guys, I have Mivec Matspeed High Cam 306/304 for sale, selling because Im using stock cam for my Mivec Turbo Build. Wasap me if you are interested, Thanks

DeleteHow does the throtle position senser work on the mitsubishi
ReplyDeleteIt senses the position of the throttle valve or butterfly valve and transmits the information to the Engine control unit. This sensor monitors how far down the accelerometer pedal is pushed and gives the output current determining the position of the pedal. The position of the pedal controls the airflow of the engine (source:https://www.elprocus.com/throttle-position-sensor-working-principle-applications/#:~:text=It%20senses%20the%20position%20of,the%20airflow%20of%20the%20engine.)
