Crazy 4g93 (310E) Engine Built By HKS

Hi guys!

I would like to share some of the pictures and information that I found on the net regarding super 4g93 engine built by a well known Japanese tuner which is HKS. As one of the user of 4g93 engine (with MIVEC top set) in a Proton Satria, this kind of engineering really amazed me 😍


The first gen of 310E engine. Look at those intake and header setup 😱



Second gen of 310E engine.... GDI direct injection setup. also use different intake and header setup.



Developed based on Mitsubishi 4g93 cast iron engine. The first version cc was increased from 1834cc to 1994cc producing 180hp with 26kgm of torque. The later version (GDI) with much more refine setup able to produce higher power output which is 208hp with 26.8kgm of torque 👏



The F3 car that was using the 4g93 based engine (310E) won the third round of the 1997 F3 Championship 👍

Ralliart is Back?

Hi Guys!

Read the news that Ralliart will make a comeback after 11 years! Well that's a good news for me since I am one of Mitsubishi fan. For those who doesn't really know about Ralliart, this is a division under Mitsubishi motor which focus on motorsport. This sub-brand are responsible for preparation of racing vehicle, development of high-performance models and also performance parts for Mitsubishi models.

From the information, the revival would take sometimes (approx. 2 years) and I really hope Mitsubishi Motor will be able to realize this motorsport dreams. Better late than never guys 💪

Duratech Oversized Valves For 4g93/T

Hi guys.
New stuff by Duratech! The company just launch new product which is oversized (1mm) forged valve springs for 4g93. So it means that it can also use by 4g91 ,4g92 and 4g93T . I'm not really sure if it can also use in MIVEC but i think it is not plug and play. Pictures below.

Duratech Racing Camshaft For MIVEC

I just got some info about new racing camshaft in the market for MIVEC first generation. It is produced by Duratech. Pictures below.




Not so much info about it but from the seller's info, this camshaft specification is totally the same with JUN specification racing camshaft , Type 2 which is;

IN(260)8.976mm ; (304)11.30mm
EX(256)8.476mm ;(304)10.80mm

Hope will get some more infomation about this camshaft. Btw, the price is MYR2999. The valve springs is not included, so it means that buyers need to source for another racing valve springs maker such as JUN or RPW for better performance and safety when using this camshaft.

Ralliart Reservoir Tank Cover

Hey guys.
During hard driving, let say in track, drag or touge, there is a chance our brake/clutch/power steering may leak fluids. So to stop this from happening, we can install 'reservoir tank cover'. It also happens to me so after window shopping to all of performance parts shop to get good deal on this cover, i managed to find reservoir tank cover produced by Ralliart. Pictures below.





The reservoir tank cover not only protect our engine bay from leaks but it will also dramatically enhance our engine bay appearance XD.I think that's my main reason actually XD. As you can see from the pictures above, i bought two covers. One for brake reservoir tank and the other one is for my power steering reservoir tank.

Hybrid Project Part 4

Hi guys!

Some pictures that i took during the process. My mechanic first checked the condition of the cylinder head and then cleaned it with special chemical to take out a of unwanted stains , debris and old engine oil from the cylinder head. Picture below.


After that, they install all of the parts back in the cylinder head. Next, they checked the valve clearance between the head and the piston by putting clays on top of the valve pocket. Sorry forgot to take picture at that time. This is a very important step because if the measurement is not accurate, the valves might hit the piston especially when MIVEC activate.


Since i'm out of budget at that time, i have to cancel my plan to port & polish the cylinder head. But nevermind. Maybe next?

Another Sign of Ageing?

Hi guys.
Recently, i felt that my engine is too aggressive to use on the road. Since this car is a daily driven car, driving in town with lot of traffic jam sometimes make me feel really pissed off especially during hot days and without air-condition. LOL. What more can i do right since I'm using race spec camshaft ( 300 degree of duration ). So it will stall everytime i turned ON the air-condition during idle. Suddenly, this idea came up in my mind. It might shock some of you guys but i want to reveal something.... i just bought new cylinder head to be plonked on my engine block. Pictures below.

i will now miss the power, the touch, the sound, the hardship, the sweat & the victory. thx all motor 4g93 variable-less screamer. you will be missed. thx for the memories.


MIVEC cylinder head

Yes. As you can see from the picture above, i bought the famous MIVEC cylinder head by Mitsubishi. The technology from the cylinder head is quite similar to VTEC system. MIVEC technology is an answer to VTEC by Honda XD. Some of the specification of the cylinder head.

Still didn't get the idea? here are another informations that i got from the internet which can help you guys to understand a bit more on what MIVEC really is :)

"Some types of variable valve control systems optimize power and torque by varying valve opening times and/or duration. Some of these valve control systems optimize performance at low and mid-range engine speeds. Others focus on enhancing only high-rpm power. MIVEC system provides both of these benefits by controlling valve timing and lift. The basic operation of the MIVEC system is altering the cam profiles and thus tailoring engine performance in response to driver input.

In essence, MIVEC serves the same function as "swapping cams", something that car racers might do when modifying older-design engines to produce more power. However, such swaps come with a compromise - generally yielding either greater low-end torque or more high-end horsepower, but not both. MIVEC achieves both goals. With MIVEC, the "cam swap" occurs automatically at a fixed engine speed. The cam switch operation is transparent to the driver, who is simply rewarded with a smooth flow of power.

Two distinct cam profiles are used to provide two engine modes: a low-speed mode, consisting of low-lift cam profiles; and a high-speed mode. The low-lift cams and rocker arms - which drive separate intake valves - are positioned on either side of a centrally located high-lift cam. Each of the intake valves is operated by a low-lift cam and rocker arm, while placing a T-lever between them allows the valves to follow the action of the high-lift cam.

At low speeds, The T-lever's wing section floats freely, enabling the low-lift cams to operate the valves. The intake rocker arms contain internal pistons, which are retained by springs in a lowered position while the engine speed is below the MIVEC switchover point, to avoid contacting the high-lift T-shaped levers. At high speeds, hydraulic pressure elevates the hydraulic pistons, causing the T-lever to push against the rocker arm, which in turn makes the high-lift cam operate the valves.

In summary, MIVEC switches to the higher cam profile as engine speed increases, and drops back to the lower cam profile as engine speed decreases. The reduced valve overlap in low-speed mode provides stable idling, while accelerated timing of the intake valve's closing reduces backflow to improve volumetric efficiency, which helps increase engine output as well as reduce lift friction. High-speed mode takes advantage of the pulsating intake effect created by the mode's high lift and retarded timing of intake valve closure. The resulting reduced pumping loss of the larger valve overlap yields higher power output and a reduction in friction. The low- and high-speed modes overlap for a brief period, boosting torque"


Quite long huh? hehe. To be true, I'm very sad actually to sell my beloved 93T head because the head that i built is very capable to trash some variable and lifting machine if you know what i meant but, since this car is daily driven, so i had to make up my mind and sell this head off. Hopefully the new owner will make a better setup with the head in his race machine. All the best.

Mirage Cup Racing

This video is quite old actually. but i still wanna share the video to you guys because maybe some of you still haven't watch this video. The battle between mitsubishi hot hatch, mirage cyborg. If im not mistaken all of the car are equipped with Mivec 1600cc engines which have been modded of course =p .....Damn.. i love the sound!


Btw, i forgot to update about my new exhaust setup. Last week, i swapped my j's racing straight flow muffler with s-flow type muffler. I dunno why. Maybe i'm getting old =p. Eventhough i can feel that my car power especially high end power dropped but i don't really care much since the sound is candy to the ears. Furthermore it improves my low end power =) which is very good for city driving. I might change back to 'war-type' muffler because i might getting bored with it (the current ones).... but not very soon i guess. haha.

New Intake & Throttle Body Setup


Heyya!
Just took the car yesterday and as promised, here are some of the picture of the new setup.






As you can see from the picture, the coil pack is now on the rocker cover. At first i didn't like it but after hours later, i think i can live with it =p. Well, enough for the cosmetic =p. Lets talk about the engine improvements. So far after test drive, i can really say that the engine pull harder, better and lighter at all rpm and it becomes sweeter after the rpm meter past 4500 rpm till redline! This is absolutely better than my previous setup ( 4g93T intake + 60 mm throttle body). No kidding! I'm so happy with it and the money i've spent after-all is worth it! Thumbs up! So once again, my mission accomplished. Wait for another project guys!

Intake and Throttle Body V2

Just a quick update. i went to see how the intake and throttle body look like after the modifications. I can see that there are still some adjustment to make before the intake can really fit with the cylinder head. So far, all i can say that the job is nicely done by the mechanic. I'm really happy with it. Some pictures for appetizer below :D

New Oversized Throttle Body

Hi guys.

Sorry for not updating this blog because I'm quite busy nowadays. Still remember about my project which is to hybrid the Honda's intake to Mitsu's engine? Well, yeah. The intake is now finished. The only problem is i haven't install it in the engine yet =p. Last week and this week, I'm very busy with my schedule and other than that, i hold my plan to install the intake because I'm waiting for my new oversized throttle body. Just received it yesterday after a week of waiting. I chose to buy new billet throttle body from Super90. The size varies from 65 mm to 80 mm. If I'm not mistaken, 100 mm also available but i think i need to check back from their website. Well for my setup, 70 mm is more than enough. Bigger than that, it is overkill for 4g93. Btw, pictures below.








I planned to install it together with the Honda's intake since it will be much more cost effective =p. Doesn't have to pay twice for workmanship =D. So what's the use of the oversized throttle body? Well, from others experience, and from the info that i collected from the net, it can improve throttle response, gives better acceleration and more high end output. But please bare in mind that bigger is not necessarily better. It depends on the engine specification too. For those running on big overlapped cams/turbocharged or supercharged, this will be a supporting modification to help the engine sucks more air into the combustion chamber for better power. Just a simple explanation from what i know. Maybe you can have a better idea if you search more info bout the pros and cons of the oversized throttle body from the net.

Hybrid Intake?

Konniciwa!

Just a quick update. I bought a used intake taken from Honda EG6 siR. I plan to do 'frankenstein' project which is to modify the intake and then fit it into my gsr (4g93T) cylinder head. This is not a 'plug and play' job. Need to make some adjustments on the b16's flange to fit it in. Maybe some of you will say why? but why not right =p. After comparing the gsr intake with B16 intake, i can see clearly how well the design of the Honda intake since the intake runner are much bigger , straighter and shorter than gsr intake. Honda has design this intake to 'high rpm type' according to some website which i cannot recalled so i think it will works with my 300/288 camshaft. At first, i planned to use Honda Skunk2 intake but my budget permits me to proceed with the plan =p . Pix below.


Btw, i've sent the intake to a friend of mine to modify it since i've seen his drag car use this intake and it performed quite well in the race. So, i believe he will do a good job to modify it and plug it in my engine cylinder head. I also ask him to 'sandblast' the intake too so that the intake will look clean as new. Honda's fuel rail will be used also with the project. Only the injectors from 4g93 remain the same.

I will update more about the intake when it finish. I just take 2-3 days to finish it but the guy who is going to modify the intake is now very busy preparing his rally car for this upcoming event :( so i need to wait. Nevermind then. Hopefully the project will turns out well.

New Project : Cylinder Head


Hi guys.

My hands are itchy to mod again my engine. So today i asked my mechanic to find me another 4g93 cylinder head to do 'Port & Polish'. Last time my current cylinder head is already ported and polished to Stage 1 Port & Polish. But this time, i decided to go for maximum port & polish cylinder head job which most people call it Stage 3 Port & Polish. Other than just porting and polishing the intake and exhaust holes, in this stage, we will also touch some of the other part such as valve seat etc.

But anyway I hope that it is not too late to wish all of my moslem friends Happy Eid ul-Fitr.
