Engine Rebuild. Work In Progress : Part 1

Hi Guys!

Just wanna share with you guys some update on my engine rebuilding :)

All necessary parts for the engine block:

ACL Race Engine Bearing this time for main & rod, ACL Thrust Washer and  RIK piston rings.

As mentioned in the previous post, i want to change my engine setup from using P30 VTEC piston to 82mm oversized MIVEC piston.

bye bye p30 piston......

high compression TOTO piston (http://www.totopiston.co.kr/toto/index.html). 82mm in size (stock piston size is 81mm). No budget for WISECO/CP piston ( T T )

Dont want to expose my timing belt this time. Lesson Learnt. HAHA.

HKS transparent timing belt cover.

Since i was working during the internal parts installation, i did not managed to snap pictures of the process.

Below are some picture of the installation process:

4g93 connecting rods (last time using P30 VTEC connecting rods) , crankshaft and pistons are all inside the rebored engine block.......

look at the piston dome...yeah....high compression setup. yummyyyy :P

bottom part. almost done.

delicious.....................

engine block.

AGAIN.. i was working during cylinder head rebuilding process.... SO these are the only pictures that i can share (T T)

change all the necessary parts for the cylinder head (new timing belt, seals, grind valve etc)

so fresh so clean....

The work is still in progress. Stay tuned for more readers!!!

Regards.

4g93 with ITBs

Hi guys.

Last week, my friend and me went to his panel workshop to do wide-band tuning to his engine. When i was waiting for the tuning to finish, i took a look around on the other rides in the workshop but then i spotted a mysterious induction sound at the back of the workshop. Im very curious to know where the sound came from so i went to the back and check on the ride. It came from a 'not so flashy' yellow Proton Satria with 4g93 engine. Then i realized, it is the engine that i spotted couple of months ago when it is still in the building up process. Hell yeah. Now, it's finished! Pictures of the engine bay bellow.

I'm craving for this induction setup. The sound from the ITBs is damn sweet. I have to keep this engine specifications as secrets since i've made a promise with the owner =p

p/s: happy fasting to all of my moslem friends.

Compression Test

Last nite i went to my panel workshop to fix FICD ( fast idle control device ) taken from Toyota 4AGZE supercharged to control my car idling. After the camshaft timing process ( during overhauling job ), my car is very hard to idle especially i turn ON my air-conditioning. It is because they have set my camshaft timing to the maximum to fully utilise the high camshaft profile. Other than that, i asked my mechanics to tighten up my aircond compressor belt because sometimes i can hear it squeaking and that iritates me. I also change my air-conditioning compressor and add in new gas and condenser oil. After installing the FICD, i also asked them to do an engine compression test with compression tester.

I'm very happy to see the result. I managed to get the compression that i've targetted which is 19 bar in all 4 cylinders. I think all the money and time that i've spent on this project is worth it after all =)

After finish running-in period, i will send my car for tuning again and then will go for a dyno run to check the horsepower. Hopefully manage to get the horsepower targetted for this little naturally aspirated and variable valve timing -less engine. Haha! Viva all motor!

Rebirth

Took my car just now from my panel workshop. I'm very happy since i can drive again after waiting for about 1 month plus =p. All i need to do now is to exercise my left foot more since the racing clutch is damn stiff! LOL . But nevermind, i like it that way =p. By the way , this are some of the pix of my car during the last day at the workshop.

This is still not the end of the modifications. When you stepped on a journey to find horsepower, you will never return.

Overhaulin' Finale

Hi guys.

After a long wait , my car finished overhauling. The engine started up last sunday and thank god there was no problem or what so ever. Today ( tuesday ) my mechanic sent my car for camshaft timing with dial gauge to properly set my piston TDC and valve opening and closing. Other than that they weld my air-conditioning condenser since there's some leaking at the condenser. They also change my left and right engine mounting to solid mitsubishi evolution because my current mounting worn out , badly =p

I also test drive it and then hand it back to my mechanic since i would like them to re-fiber my broken bumper. But all i can say after the test drive is that my car is totally different than before. The engine respond is instant, the engine sound is meaner, the clutch is stiffer and gripper, and the car vibrate like hell because of the evo's engine mounts =P but nevermind ; already get used to this kind of vibration, because i'm using high duration camshaft so vibration all over =p . Can ask much right? If u wanna drive fast then you have to sacrifice comfort. Equivalent exchange!

Maybe tomorrow ( hopefully ) i will take the car and take care good car of it for about 1000km or maybe more ? LOL. Engine running-in period. Then will start whacking it again =p

need sleep. kthxbye =)

Overhaulin Part 6

Hi guys.

Last thursday i went to my panel workshop too see the engine progress. Most of the parts such as b16 pistons, b16 conrods, crankshaft etc have been fitted inside the 4g93 engine block.

Now the only tasks which are left are to transfer the engine to the engine bay and then do some tuning and troubleshooting. All of us are very eager to see what the outcomes gonna be =P

Most probably my car will be on the road again 2 0r 3 days more if there is no problem =)

Overhaulin' Part 5

Hi guys!

In the last post, i've covered some info about engine balancing and guess what? All my parts such as pistons , connecting rods , racing clutch , crankshaft , crank pulley , flywheel etc already finished balance from the machine shop! Yippie-ya-yey ! Now, the only task left is just installing it inside the engine. Here are some of the balanced parts pix.

I'm very satisfied and i really can't wait for this project to finish! Hopefully everything goes well =)
Will be on the road again!

regards.

Overhaulin' Part 3

Nothing much on the progress of the engine. My car is still in the workshop. Last week my mechanics sent my crankshaft for lightening and modified conrod big-end at the machine shop. And last 2 days, they finally got the parts that they sent a week ago. Sorry I cant upload any picture for the process since i was not there at that time. Will post it if i got the pictures from my mechanics.

Btw , i sent my rocker cover for re-spray. Last time, My rocker cover was in light blue color but now it is in metallic blue. Photo after the jump.

Overhaulin' Part 2

Hi guys,

Since my car is still in the workshop , i took some part and do DIY to my GSR intake. I sprayed the intake manifold to flat black. All you need are sand paper , bottle of spray can , dryer , and yes a lot of patience =p.

p/s: hehe . nice right?

Overhaulin' Part 1

Overhauling huh ? this project consume a lot of money. Seriously but heck, in the need of speed i have to trade something to achieve something in return. This is what we call equivalent trade. haha. Scroll down for more info.

List of project in overhaulin'

1) Overhaul the whole engine
2) Full Engine Balancing
3) Crankshaft Lightening
4) Upgrade some parts

btw, this are some parts that i already bought ( pix above )

  • Overhaul kits
  • Necessary seals on head and block
  • Honda b16 p30 piston and rings
  • Honda b16 conrod
  • ACL bearings
  • Full Racing 4 pucks spring-less clutch
I would like to call it project frankenstein since this project mix some parts taken from honda such as conrod and piston. It is not plug and play. Need to do some of the modification at the big-end of honda conrod to fix in the 4g93 crankshaft. Hope everything will go as smooth as planned.
