Hi guys!

For the past few weeks, I think I've been attacked by sticker bomb syndrome. I cannot help myself soooo...this is what i did to my R3 Stage 3 Front Lips :P

R3 Stage 3 Front Lips.. flat black in color....hmmm.... it looks dull actually.. gotta do something!

some of the process .. measured the lips and then cut the sticker to the calculated measurements... using high quality vinyl with UV protection :)

clean the lips from any dust etc.......

paste it part by part.. took 3 hours to finish this job....

Opsss.. before i forgot.... i also change my lug nuts to Rays Duralumin Lug Nuts. Very Lightweight if compared to stock lug nuts.

Other than that, i changed to a new set of tires. I chose Yokohama Parada Spec 2 this time. Good grip i can say :)

Race-Tech Smooth Shift

Hi guys!

I have a problem.. which is, everytime i shift between gear (especially on high rpm) , i always miss shift. This is bad! ... so i searched through forums and articles of what can i do to have a better feeling when i change between gears. This are what i found.: change to a better shift bushing linkage kit and short/quick shifter.

Luckily in Malaysia, i can get it easyily since Race-Tech Produce this linkage bushing which is called Race-Tech Smooth Shift. So i guess why not?

Intake Upgrade : Skunk2 Intake Manifold

Hi guys!
For the past 3 months, I've been very busy with my work and i cant spend much time to write. Really sorry for that. In today post, i would like to share my intake project. I've been looking and collecting parts for this past 3 months and yes, it did took a lot of my time since i need to make some research before proceeding with the project. I want this project to be like what i wanted. Thank god, i managed to gather stuff that i wanted. Pictures of the process below :

For this project, i also decided to upgrade my fuel rail with a high flow fuel rail which is made by aluminium. Other than just properly supply the additional fuel needed for high performance applications and durability, this fuel rail brings out the bling factor ... of course :P

At first i would like to buy a new set of the intake but then i changed my mind. Luckily, i managed to find someone who wanted to sell off his engine, so after a lot of negotiations, i managed to ask him to sell his modded intake to me. For your information, the intake is made by Skunk2. It is designed for B Series application. So, in order to use this intake, there are some of the modification that is needed before it can fit perfectly. The previous owner use cut & weld method which means he cut the MIVEC intake flange and then weld it with the Skunk2 intake. This method will gives better flow and direct fit with MIVEC cylinder head. The intake has been sprayed with black VTEC rough structure.

For this project also, i decided to use thermal intake gasket. Thermal intake gasket acts as a barrier stopping heat transferring from the engine block through into the inlet manifold. Stopping this heat transfer results in a cooler inlet charge temperature and in doing so increases engine power. It has been proven so i think it is worth to try :)

MIVEC intake manifold ... the design is much different from Skunk2. Skunk2 is designed to give better high RPM power and that is what i am targeting for...

Testing out the 4 throttle setup. Haha. Still under R&D

After a lot of test drive, i am very positive that this Skunk2 intake manifold gives much better feeling if compared to MIVEC intake manifold. No kidding. But i dont have proof to show to you for now. I will be on dyno machine again since this upgrade needs tuning to make it performs much better. Hopefully i will hit my target. We'll see.....

Hi guys.
Sorry for the lacks of update. I'm quite busy nowadays so it is very hard for me to find time to write something. I still remember lot of 4G9X Naturally aspirated engine user especially MIVEC always complaining that performance parts for the engine is not that much if compare to VTEC and yes.. it is true.

What i admire about the 4G9X engine user is their spirit to build the engine to be as fast as VTEC so they keep on doing research and develop custom parts for their engine and i think it is very good for the motorsport scenes.

In my country, which is Malaysia, most of the 4G9X tuner here think that one of the performance part that is lack of variety in the market for the engine is intake manifold. So, they find ways on how to upgrade it with the parts which is readily available for the market. I think they are quite creative indeed :)

Hybrid ; The New Way of Thinking

The world nowadays is focusing more on ways to save the environment. As we all know, one of the factor of air pollution is causing by the gas emitted from the car exhaust. It is very hard to stop it but we can reduce it. That's why more engine produce nowadays follow the 'Euro Emission Standard'.

Since the technology nowadays is becoming more advance, we are now introduced with new engine technology. One of it is " Hybrid Technology". If we talk about hybrid car, Toyota Prius and Honda Insight come in mind.

My brother and me are quite interested in this future technology and we think why not hybrid ? So, after watch and read a lot of reviews, my brother made up his mind to go for Honda Insight. Pictures below.

first modification : we change from 16 inch rim with Advan RG2 17 inch rim wrapped with Yokohama A Drive tires.

Interior, very neat and comfy.

meter clusters, full with all of informations such as colour changing speedometer (driving style), eco scoring (feedback of current and long term driving practices), driving cycle and cumulative lifetime performance.

the cockpit - simple yet stylish and educational layout. the head-unit offers USB jack so that we can connect devices such as Ipod, mp3 player, mobile HDD and USB memory readers.

the high aero tail rear - increase visibility and aerodynamic performance

small displacement engine but equipped with electric motor. believe it or not this engine produce max torque of 199NM (engine + electric motor). The power is transfered by CVT transmission system which help achieving perfect balance between fuel economy and performance by producing more torque with an infinite number of effective gear ratios.

4AGE VS I-VTEC VS MIVEC ?

All i can say, this car is very nice to drive and the fuel consumption is very very very good. Kudos to Honda Engineers. Hope the hybrid technology will evolve so that we can see a lot of hybrid car on the road in the near future.

Matspeed Specification Camshaft

Hi guys!
Last week, i sent my car to install matspeed camshaft for my MIVEC engine. Actually this was an unplanned modification but since there was a promotion for this camshaft, i can say i ' accidently' bought it. haha. Pictures below.

Took out the OEM camshaft... first profile 228 IN 232 EX ; second profile 285 IN 300 EX

Fresh from the oven. LOL. The matspeed specification camshaft. I forgot the first profile spec ( maybe around 25+ IN 25+ EX ) ; but the second profile 306 IN and 304 EX.

DONE!

After that, i straightaway sent the car for dyno since i requested them to set the camshaft pulley on dyno machine ( i chose dyno dynamics roller ). Thank god the money spent is worth it. I managed to get 10whp increase. Overall i can say this camshaft is mild and not that aggressive if compare with JUN. The car still idle like standard and the engine wont stall even when i turn on the air-conditioning. No "brup brup" ( yeah actually a lil bit ) sounds if you get what i meant =D. I'm so happy with the increase in power. Thumbs Up!

Improving The Handling of The Car

Hi guys.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Btw, After i did a lot of reviews on chassis strengthening and how to improve car handling, i made up my mind to do something to my ride. So, I chose front strut bar and rear strut bar from Ultra racing. Pictures below.

picture above shows the 3 points front strut bar. I choose 3 points because it will give better strength to the chassis and neutralize the shock impact transfer to the chassis.

On the other hand, the above picture shows the rear strut bar. I also insisted to go for 3 points design for the rear bacause of its advantages and reviews from some of my other friends who use this bar.

Beware, make sure the one you bought is original. Dont be cheated :) You can check the originality from the serial number on the sway bars.

After hard driving, i can definitely say that this bars are worth the money. My car handling feels much better and it feels so different. It is not just 'placebo effect' :) Thumbs up for ULtra Racing.

Hi guys.
I've received so much questions on what engine oil that i use, what type of coolant , transmission oil etc. Mostly about engine routine maintenance. So, for today post, i would like to write about it.

Usually, i'll change my car engine oil every 5000 km (maybe less sometimes). The brand that i always go for is Castrol Magnatec. I choose semi-synthetic blend 10w40.

The price is affordable and from my experiences, this engine oil make my engine feel smoother. Well, any other good brand (within the price of the magnatec) that you guys wanna suggest? maybe i can compare which one is better :)

And for the oil filter, i always go for proton original oil filter.The price is damn cheap and it is also reliable since it is produced by the car manufacturer. Btw, we gotta take extra precaution since there are a lot of fake ones in the market now. We need to replace the oil filter everytime we change the engine oil.

For the transmission oil, i use Castrol MTF EP. The transmission oil change is necessary every 20,000-30,000 km. It can prevents from damaging the gearbox.

For radiator coolant, i always go for Toyota 'long life' coolant. Most of radiator shop that i go recommend this coolant since the coolant are good and affordable.

So, that's all for now. I hope you guys can suggest me some good stuffs that you use in your routine car maintenance so that i can have more choices for next routine maintenance.

Racecraft Carbon Fiber Vented Hood

Hi guys!

I am a fan of carbon fiber product. So, last 3 days, i decided to replace my front hood with carbon fiber hood which made by Racecraft. The quality is superb and other than that, i love the design. Pictures below :)

Apart from improving the cosmetics look of a car, carbon fiber hood also reduces overall weight of a car. It reduces weight on the front wheels and this can improve balance of the vehicle when driving. It is because the front wheels are the wheels which we steer the car with. It means that when there is heavy load on them, the ability to steer will compromise. Reducing the load on the front wheel will enhance the ability to steer. Cool huh?

Other than that, carbon fiber are actually strong and durable eventhough when you hold it, you will feel or think that this stuff is fragile or not strong, which is not true at all :P

Besides that, carbon fiber can withstands heat better than metals. Since I chose the hood with vents, air flow from outside will help to keep the engine cool. A cooler engine is much more efficient isn’t it?

Super90 Oversized Throttle Body Upgrade

Hi guys.

Yesterday i just changed my standard throttle body to super90 oversized throttle body for my MIVEC. The size is 70mm, which is 10mm more than the standard throttle body. I made up my mind to go for super90 throttle body because of its quality. Other than that, i've already tested it on my previous 4g93 non MIVEC setup and all i can say it is worth the price.

need to take out the intake and then port and match it with the size of the new throttle body which is 70mm. This process is very important ; if the intake is not port and match then you wont feel any increments from this throttle body upgrade.

the installation was quite plug and play. i think i took more pictures of the process but i dont know where all of them gone!

After that, my mechanic checked the air fuel ratio by innovate wideband kit. This is very important because we can know the air fuel mixture. If it is too lean then it will be dangerous for the engine and if it too rich it will reduce the engine performance and the engine will become fuel guzzler. So, with this kit, my mechanic tuned the engine to the correct air fuel mixture.

The outcomes? YES! the throttle body upgrade and tuning do wonders. I can really feel the increments. I'm so happy since once again the money that i spent is worth it after all. So, i would like to recommend this upgrade for those who already planned to upgrade the throttle body. BUT, i would like to stress that bigger doesn't necessarily means better. Consult your mechanic first whether the throttle body upgrade is suitable for your engine setup :)

Bodyworks & Respray

Hi guys.

Last 2 weeks i sent my car for bodyworks. I made the decision because my car body was in bad condition especially my front lip and the roof. Apart from that, the car color was faded. So, i think it is time for me to give the car a fresh look like years ago.

I chose the same color like last time since blue is my favorite color. If you guys wondering what is this color code, well the name of the color is passion blue code A0101. Below are all the pictures of the progress.

Secret Weapon : Raceland Exhaust Electric Cut Out

Here is some update. Actually last month i ordered 'Exhaust Electric Cut Out' which produce by Raceland. I asked my friend to get it shipped from US to Malaysia last month and it arrived yesterday. Below are some pictures of the electric cut out.

Woke up early today to fix this exhaust cut out. yeah. thank god the exhaust shop that i always visit doesn't close today, yeah on christmas :P if not then i have to go another day which i think i might be busy...

need to do some adjustment to the piping since the exhaust cut out is quite big...

sorry i forgot to take the picture when the welding job finished. too busy looking at other performance parts in the shop :P

Can you guys spot the difference in sound? yeah. These are some of the benefits - this cut out enables us to bypass the muffler hence increasing horsepower and giving car an extremely throaty rumble. Since you all know that i'm using s-flow type muffler so, my high end power is quite suffocated. After i installed this cut out, my high end power is improving a lot since there is no more restriction in the flow but the low end power i can say drop a bit. The good thing using this cut out is, i can choose wether to use my standard setup or free flow setup. Cool isnt it? I think i wont have any issue with the authority since i can now have the ability to control the sound of my exhaust :)

Carbon Fiber MIVEC Plug Cover

Hi guys.

Nothing much actually. Today, the stuff which i really want for so long arrived. At last i can have a real carbon fiber plug cover for my engine.

I've measured the OEM plug cover and it weighted 400g. This carbon fiber plug cover is 100g lesser from the OEM which is 300g. Just a bit only :P but after all i'm sooo effing happy to have this stuff. Such candy to the eyes.

Still waiting for my 'other stuff' from US. i really can't wait!

WARNING! Fake Tomei Fuel Regulator

This is the first and long awaited announcement of the fake copies of Tomei Powered products that are being sold around the world these days. Read for more important information

Recently the market is being flooded with more and more copied items of many brands, including ours. You may have heard rumors that Tomei products are made in China. Well there are a lot of copied Tomei products made in China. This is true. It is hard and near impossible for us to stop these companies making knockoffs due to the international legalities and also being China….

So here are is the detailed information on the copied Tomei Fuel Pressure Regulator that is being sold on eBay and other so called authorized Tomei dealers.

These fake regulators are poor in quality as they have leak. This is dangerous as you know. Problems caused are engine failure and/or fire! Don’t risk your car, investment and life with these fake items. The problem is these look very close to the real ones so here is how you can tell the fake one from the real one.

The Regulator Body

TOMEI on the left | | Fake copy on the right
The Logo is different
The color is different, a bit darker.
The finish quality of the surface is different, not as smooth.

You can see the screw at the bottom that seals the side pressure sensor hole is not properly sealed with the tape

Duratech Racing Camshaft For MIVEC

I just got some info about new racing camshaft in the market for MIVEC first generation. It is produced by Duratech. Pictures below.

Not so much info about it but from the seller's info, this camshaft specification is totally the same with JUN specification racing camshaft , Type 2 which is;

IN(260)8.976mm ; (304)11.30mm
EX(256)8.476mm ;(304)10.80mm

Hope will get some more infomation about this camshaft. Btw, the price is MYR2999. The valve springs is not included, so it means that buyers need to source for another racing valve springs maker such as JUN or RPW for better performance and safety when using this camshaft.

Comparison Between Original Skunk2 & Fake Skunk2 Intake

Hi guys.

Nowadays, we can find a lot of fake item in the market. One of it that i would like to share is Skunk2 intake. I hope with some of the photos attached in this post, we as consumer can differentiate between the real and the fake ones. This informations are very important to us, so that we wont get con by some of the untrusted sellers which sell this fake intake with the price of the original intake. Refer to the pictures below for comparison.

As you can see from the pictures above, there are a lot of differences between this two intakes. I can say that you wont get the same improvements that you will get from the original skunk2 intake with the fake skunk2 intake. You get what you pay right? But the most important thing is that i want to stress here is, preventing yourself from getting con by the untrusted sellers out there who claim that they sell the real intake but the truth is the intake that you bought is not the real one. At that time, you are already the victim.

Another Upgrades After Another.

Hi guys.

I sold my adjustable camshaft pulley together with my previous cylinder head last time. So, i have to find a pair of new one for my MIVEC. After a lot of window shopping from one shop to another, from one website to another , then i managed to find one that suits my budget. I chose from Arospeed ( just like last time ). I Chose it because, most of the tuners in my area choose to use this brand and other than that, this brand offers a lot of colors to suit your taste. It is easy to find in the market too.

Other than just that, i have to change my driveshaft since the current one wear off. You can spot there is some problem with your driveshaft if it gives you bad driving feel like what i experienced. The whole bode of my car tremble like hell everytime i passed 120 km/h. After i changed it, no more problem.

When we jacked the car to change the driveshaft, i managed to take a picture of my bent header. Freaking mad. I accidently hit a speedbump. This is the result... and i am effing mad! haha.

Ralliart Reservoir Tank Cover

Hey guys.
During hard driving, let say in track, drag or touge, there is a chance our brake/clutch/power steering may leak fluids. So to stop this from happening, we can install 'reservoir tank cover'. It also happens to me so after window shopping to all of performance parts shop to get good deal on this cover, i managed to find reservoir tank cover produced by Ralliart. Pictures below.

The reservoir tank cover not only protect our engine bay from leaks but it will also dramatically enhance our engine bay appearance XD.I think that's my main reason actually XD. As you can see from the pictures above, i bought two covers. One for brake reservoir tank and the other one is for my power steering reservoir tank.

R3 Stage 3 Header

Hi guys!
Since i'm running on a new setup, i also thinking to redo back my exhaust system. Last 3-4 days ago, i managed to get a 'used' R3 Stage 3 header which i found when i surfed online market to replace my Hotbits 4-2-1 header. After finished dealing with the seller, i straight away bought it as the price fit my budget and other than that, R3 department has stop the production of this kind of header, so i can say that this header is quite a rare item. Picture below.

After a few runs with the new header, i can say that this header is quite good. Most people said that this 4-1 header will make bad low end power, but thank god i didnt spot any decrease in low end power. It gives a very good mid range power and superb high end power especially after MIVEC kicks in! Badass sound! I kinda like it very much.

The only thing that i hate about this header is the header runner is quite long, below the oil sump, meaning that the clearance with the ground is not so good. Not really appropriate to use on the road in my country which have a lot of speedbumps. Really scare it will bent! Hope it will not. If thats happen, than i have to find another one :(

The Finale : MIVEC 1.8 Hybrid

Hi guys!

As i promised in the last two post, here is the picture of my engine bay. Introducing new heart for my ride, MIVEC 1.8

After a week of testing this setup, the car behave just like what i have wanted for this daily driven car. Power below 5000 RPm is just like any other 1.8 vvt (maybe better) but the power when the MIVEC kicks in ( 5200 PRM ) is veryyyyyyyyyy orgasmic all the way to rev cut ( 8200 RPM ). Really love the sound of the MIVEC crossover. I'M LOVING IT!!!

For the time being i planned to let it stock. Hmm... but i think not for so long. LOL. Really into engine modification. Maybe it is in my blood already. LOL. But one thing for sure i want to unleash the power without have to put in any performance high camshaft first. Wanna see how far this 'stock' 2 in 1 camshaft can do with add-on parts =)

All i wanna do now are to find new header & adjustable camshaft pulley. Gonna start saving up. Parts for MIVEC ain't cheap. I think ,most MIVEC users can understand what i meant. Hehe.

Hybrid Project Part 4

Hi guys!

Some pictures that i took during the process. My mechanic first checked the condition of the cylinder head and then cleaned it with special chemical to take out a of unwanted stains , debris and old engine oil from the cylinder head. Picture below.

After that, they install all of the parts back in the cylinder head. Next, they checked the valve clearance between the head and the piston by putting clays on top of the valve pocket. Sorry forgot to take picture at that time. This is a very important step because if the measurement is not accurate, the valves might hit the piston especially when MIVEC activate.

Since i'm out of budget at that time, i have to cancel my plan to port & polish the cylinder head. But nevermind. Maybe next?

DIY time =)

Since the MIVEC rocker cover look dirty and dull, i sprayed it to my favorite color which is blue. It doesn't turn out like what i wanted. Actually, I wanna make it dark blue like my previous rocker cover but then color turned lighter that what i planned. ahahah. Nevermind. It still looks good though.

The rocker cover will look much better with my plug cover which has been wrapped with 3M carbon fiber 3D effect sticker. Damn nice. I got it when i searched around the net. Bought it because my halfcut cylinder head didn't come together with the plug cover.

Hybrid Project Part 2

Hey guys!

Another update. I bought this two stuffs accidently when i visited performance shop in my area. Since my current plugs worn out, i think i wont reuse it back in the cylinder head. At first, i think i just wanna buy NGK iridium IX plugs but since i've always been a fan of NGK Iriway plugs, i cancelled my plan and then go for NGK Iriway ( heat 7 ). It cost higher than the iridium but i think i dont mind since i know that it will perform much better than the iridium.

Other than that, i bought a very small stuff which proven to protect the engine. It is called 'magnetic oil sump nut'. It cost less than MYR50. And it can be use for a very long time.

Why magnetic oil drain nut? From the information that i gathered from the net, our engine oil filter can't catch everything. So, with the help of magnetic oil sump nut, it will catch any metal particles in engine oil, keeping engine completely free of metal bits and shavings. Stop engine damage before it can begin! Still confuse how it works? then watch the video below =)

Hybrid Project Part 1

Hi guys.
For this project, i didn't touch anything on the engine block. Still remain with my current block setup since it is already quite good for this hybrid project. Furthermore, this block has just been overhaul last year. Since we took off the previous cylinder head, i asked my mechanics to polish back the piston. See below for the picture.

Thank god there is no alteration on the piston that we need to make to fit in the cylinder head to the block. For those who didn't know, i'm using B16 p30 piston taken from EG siR VTEC, so we need to check first and after that we can decide which metal gasket thickness that we can use so that we wont have any problem later especially during MIVEC open/ ON. Another Sign of Ageing?

Hi guys.
Recently, i felt that my engine is too aggressive to use on the road. Since this car is a daily driven car, driving in town with lot of traffic jam sometimes make me feel really pissed off especially during hot days and without air-condition. LOL. What more can i do right since I'm using race spec camshaft ( 300 degree of duration ). So it will stall everytime i turned ON the air-condition during idle. Suddenly, this idea came up in my mind. It might shock some of you guys but i want to reveal something.... i just bought new cylinder head to be plonked on my engine block. Pictures below.

i will now miss the power, the touch, the sound, the hardship, the sweat & the victory. thx all motor 4g93 variable-less screamer. you will be missed. thx for the memories.

MIVEC cylinder head

Yes. As you can see from the picture above, i bought the famous MIVEC cylinder head by Mitsubishi. The technology from the cylinder head is quite similar to VTEC system. MIVEC technology is an answer to VTEC by Honda XD. Some of the specification of the cylinder head.

Still didn't get the idea? here are another informations that i got from the internet which can help you guys to understand a bit more on what MIVEC really is :)

"Some types of variable valve control systems optimize power and torque by varying valve opening times and/or duration. Some of these valve control systems optimize performance at low and mid-range engine speeds. Others focus on enhancing only high-rpm power. MIVEC system provides both of these benefits by controlling valve timing and lift. The basic operation of the MIVEC system is altering the cam profiles and thus tailoring engine performance in response to driver input.

In essence, MIVEC serves the same function as "swapping cams", something that car racers might do when modifying older-design engines to produce more power. However, such swaps come with a compromise - generally yielding either greater low-end torque or more high-end horsepower, but not both. MIVEC achieves both goals. With MIVEC, the "cam swap" occurs automatically at a fixed engine speed. The cam switch operation is transparent to the driver, who is simply rewarded with a smooth flow of power.

Two distinct cam profiles are used to provide two engine modes: a low-speed mode, consisting of low-lift cam profiles; and a high-speed mode. The low-lift cams and rocker arms - which drive separate intake valves - are positioned on either side of a centrally located high-lift cam. Each of the intake valves is operated by a low-lift cam and rocker arm, while placing a T-lever between them allows the valves to follow the action of the high-lift cam.

At low speeds, The T-lever's wing section floats freely, enabling the low-lift cams to operate the valves. The intake rocker arms contain internal pistons, which are retained by springs in a lowered position while the engine speed is below the MIVEC switchover point, to avoid contacting the high-lift T-shaped levers. At high speeds, hydraulic pressure elevates the hydraulic pistons, causing the T-lever to push against the rocker arm, which in turn makes the high-lift cam operate the valves.

In summary, MIVEC switches to the higher cam profile as engine speed increases, and drops back to the lower cam profile as engine speed decreases. The reduced valve overlap in low-speed mode provides stable idling, while accelerated timing of the intake valve's closing reduces backflow to improve volumetric efficiency, which helps increase engine output as well as reduce lift friction. High-speed mode takes advantage of the pulsating intake effect created by the mode's high lift and retarded timing of intake valve closure. The resulting reduced pumping loss of the larger valve overlap yields higher power output and a reduction in friction. The low- and high-speed modes overlap for a brief period, boosting torque"

Quite long huh? hehe. To be true, I'm very sad actually to sell my beloved 93T head because the head that i built is very capable to trash some variable and lifting machine if you know what i meant but, since this car is daily driven, so i had to make up my mind and sell this head off. Hopefully the new owner will make a better setup with the head in his race machine. All the best.

If im not mistaken all of the car are equipped with Mivec 1600cc engines which have been modded of course =p .....Damn.. i love the sound!

Btw, i forgot to update about my new exhaust setup. Last week, i swapped my j's racing straight flow muffler with s-flow type muffler. I dunno why. Maybe i'm getting old =p. Eventhough i can feel that my car power especially high end power dropped but i don't really care much since the sound is candy to the ears. Furthermore it improves my low end power =) which is very good for city driving. I might change back to 'war-type' muffler because i might getting bored with it (the current ones).... but not very soon i guess. haha.

Hi, it's been a long time since my last post. How are you readers? Btw, last 2-3 weeks, im very busy with my stuff. Currently i'm racing but not on the road.. but on the water =p I represented my institution in the Dragon Boat Race which held in Penang Island, Malaysia. Last time, it was held in Pullman Putajaya. Both of the events gave me a lot of experiences. Haha. Enough with that.

Currently there are no major upgrades on my ride. Just simple ones such as changing most of my stock rubber vacuum hoses to silicone and engine oil cover. Just to make the engine bay looks candy in the eyes. ahahah. Other than that, i wanna say thanks to those who voted in the poll. I'm still considering which header configuration that i should go for but 70% of me opt for 4-2-1.

New Month, New Shoes

After about a year using Volk Racing Ce28 wheels, i decided to change it to other type of wheel. So, last Thursday i swapped my ce28 with Buddyclub P-1 Racing wheel. Since the rim specification is different which is 15x7jj, i can say that the car looks definitely better which compared to the previous one, 15x6.5jj. Picture below.

hmm.. maybe next i will hunt for better tires since current one cant really hold well the power on the road especially during sprint. But for now, i will let the Silverstone Kruizer do the job :)

Sorry for the delay. Don't really have the time to write since got lot of stuffs that i need to take care of this week. Btw, in today's post, i would like to write a bit about the clutch like i promised last time. Some pictures below.

Since last time i already use racing clutch ( custom ones ) .. i can compare a bit about the clutch. I can say that the pedal is not as hard to press like my stupid custom clutch. Feel better but not as as soft as OEM clutch. Don't get the wrong idea guys =p. If compare to OEM clutch, this one i can say a little bit firmer than the OEM clutch. Since I chose the 3 pucks design, it feel like the car judder a bit during takeoff from standstill ; that's the characteristic of a racing clutch .. so what to do =p. About the grip, I can say that it does grip like hell. No more slipping between gear changes! A must upgrade for those who already increase more than +/- 40% from standard engine power. Yesterday, i burned my 4 pucks custom clutch. At first i thought the engine overheated or whatsoever but luckily after i checked the engine bay, i realized that the smokes actually came out from the gearbox. Then i knew...." i burned the damn clutch". Hmmm.. I think the money spent to build the custom clutch is not worth it at all. So, if you wanna buy custom clutch as a cheaper option, i think you better think twice because this refurbished clutch is not reliable at all. Maybe some are reliable but most of the time, it is just waiting time to be replaced =p.

So, today i bought a new Exedy ( Japan ) 3 Pucks Racing clutch. The kit comes together with the racing clutch cover which is 8.5" in size. I haven't take the picture but i promise i will post it in the next post. I'll install the clutch by tomorrow and i will give my review about the clutch.

NRG Quick Tilt

Greetings to all!

Nowadays, we can hear or read a lot from the newspapers , websites etc about car theft. Just like last time, my brother's car nearly get stolen at his workplace. Other than that 3 of my friend's car ; mostly souped-up Proton Satria GTi and Proton Putra, had been stolen away by the thief and 2 days ago, once again, one of my friend lost his beloved souped-up Proton Wira c99. Hmm... I think it is time for me to invest some of my money for safety.

Yesterday, I went to a performance parts store which nearby my area to look for steering quick release. At that time i was just looking for NRG quick release like what most of my friend use but then the store owner showed me the new type of quick release system which called 'Quick Tilt' and it is design and produce by NRG. Pictures below.

According to NRG, This 'Quick Tilt System' allows driver to easily get in and out of the car. This works especially well for cars equipped with racing seats since it can be a pain to get in and out from under the steering wheel. This system allows the steering wheel to tilt up in 1 motion. It also comes with a lock to secure the car when the steering wheel is up. Unlike the quick release system, you don't have to find a place to store your steering wheel, nor is there a need to take it with you.

New Intake & Throttle Body Setup

Heyya!

Just took the car yesterday and as promised, here are some of the picture of the new setup.

As you can see from the picture, the coil pack is now on the rocker cover. At first i didn't like it but after hours later, i think i can live with it =p. Well, enough for the cosmetic =p. Lets talk about the engine improvements. So far after test drive, i can really say that the engine pull harder, better and lighter at all rpm and it becomes sweeter after the rpm meter past 4500 rpm till redline! This is absolutely better than my previous setup ( 4g93T intake + 60 mm throttle body). No kidding! I'm so happy with it and the money i've spent after-all is worth it! Thumbs up! So once again, my mission accomplished. Wait for another project guys!

Just a quick update. i went to see how the intake and throttle body look like after the modifications. I can see that there are still some adjustment to make before the intake can really fit with the cylinder head. So far, all i can say that the job is nicely done by the mechanic. I'm really happy with it. Some pictures for appetizer below :D

New Oversized Throttle Body

Hi guys.

Sorry for not updating this blog because I'm quite busy nowadays. Still remember about my project which is to hybrid the Honda's intake to Mitsu's engine? Well, yeah. The intake is now finished. The only problem is i haven't install it in the engine yet =p. Last week and this week, I'm very busy with my schedule and other than that, i hold my plan to install the intake because I'm waiting for my new oversized throttle body. Just received it yesterday after a week of waiting. I chose to buy new billet throttle body from Super90. The size varies from 65 mm to 80 mm. If I'm not mistaken, 100 mm also available but i think i need to check back from their website. Well for my setup, 70 mm is more than enough. Bigger than that, it is overkill for 4g93. Btw, pictures below.

I planned to install it together with the Honda's intake since it will be much more cost effective =p. Doesn't have to pay twice for workmanship =D. So what's the use of the oversized throttle body? Well, from others experience, and from the info that i collected from the net, it can improve throttle response, gives better acceleration and more high end output. But please bare in mind that bigger is not necessarily better. It depends on the engine specification too. For those running on big overlapped cams/turbocharged or supercharged, this will be a supporting modification to help the engine sucks more air into the combustion chamber for better power. Just a simple explanation from what i know. Maybe you can have a better idea if you search more info bout the pros and cons of the oversized throttle body from the net.

NATIONAL car maker Proton has positioned itself well to be among the key players in the World Rally Championship (WRC) with the launch of the Proton Malaysia R3 Rally Team yesterday.

The team will begin this season with a formidable lineup of drivers featuring Scotsman Alistair McRae and Australian Chris Atkinson. Their main target is to capture the FIa Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) title for the team.

The quest begins with the Malaysian round of the APRC in Johor next weekend.

McRae and Atkinson have a stable of four Proton Satria Neo Super 2000 spec cars for the mission, two of which will be based in this region for APRC purpose, while the other two will be based in Europe to serve them in the Intercontinental Rally Championship (IRC).

Proton Motorsports general manager Datuk Abdul Razak Dawood, the man behind the successful Petronas Eon Racing Team (PERT) that bagged multiple APRC and World Production Car Rally Championship titles before it folded in 2005, is at the helm of this team.

The Proton Satria Neo in S2000 spec, was built by UK-based Mellors Elliot Motorsport (MEM). The car was tested in several rounds of the IRC last year and made its Asian debut in the Malaysian Rally 2009.

"We've decided that from now on, rallying is going to be the platform for our global branding and marketing. Thus we're going to be more aggressive," said Abdul Razak.

"We have a car that has been tested and is competitive enough for us to go for titles. So, that is what we're going to do."

Abdul Razak said the future of rallying lies in the S2000 spec cars, which will soon replace the WRC-spec cars which are much more expensive to build and run, and which he said has been a deterrent for manufacturers to sustain their involvement.

"From next year, it is already a different spec for WRC, which is for 1,600cc turbo-charged cars, based on the S2000 spec. So, we've positioned ourselves well to be ready when the time comes, to take the step into the WRC," said Abdul Razak.

The S2000-spec cars are four-wheel drive vehicles of 2,000cc in engine capacity, running without turbo. Proton is among seven manufacturers registered to compete in the fast-growing IRC this season.

The 31-year-old Atkinson, who finished fifth overall in the WRC in 2008, said the cars are much more exciting despite producing lower torque compared to current WRC cars, but development will only see S2000 spec cars getting faster.

After the Malaysian Rally 2010 next weekend, the team continue their challenge in the second round of the APRC in the Rally of Hokkaido in Japan on May 22-23.

Hybrid Intake?

Just a quick update. I bought a used intake taken from Honda EG6 siR. I plan to do 'frankenstein' project which is to modify the intake and then fit it into my gsr (4g93T) cylinder head. This is not a 'plug and play' job. Need to make some adjustments on the b16's flange to fit it in. Maybe some of you will say why? but why not right =p. After comparing the gsr intake with B16 intake, i can see clearly how well the design of the Honda intake since the intake runner are much bigger , straighter and shorter than gsr intake. Honda has design this intake to 'high rpm type' according to some website which i cannot recalled so i think it will works with my 300/288 camshaft. At first, i planned to use Honda Skunk2 intake but my budget permits me to proceed with the plan =p . Pix below.

Btw, i've sent the intake to a friend of mine to modify it since i've seen his drag car use this intake and it performed quite well in the race. So, i believe he will do a good job to modify it and plug it in my engine cylinder head. I also ask him to 'sandblast' the intake too so that the intake will look clean as new. Honda's fuel rail will be used also with the project. Only the injectors from 4g93 remain the same.

I will update more about the intake when it finish. I just take 2-3 days to finish it but the guy who is going to modify the intake is now very busy preparing his rally car for this upcoming event :( so i need to wait. Nevermind then. Hopefully the project will turns out well.

Just a quick update on this blog. I just changed my camshaft to higher and wilder specification. I decided to go for 300in/288ex from 272in/272ex from Matspeed. Other than that, i also swapped my current ecu to j5 ecu from Matspeed. All i can say that, i really love the response at high rpm! all the way up to 9000 rpm! orgasm! Some pix below

Broken Flywheel

Still remember couple of months ago i sent another cylinder head ( 4g93T ) to port & polish (stage 3)? It's now installed. Now my new cylinder head is ready for my next project which is to replace the current camshaft with wilder duration ( > 272 ). Still thinking which duration i will suit me. Last time i think 272 degree of camshaft is enough for me but I'm wrong.... still thirst for power. lolx. Other than that, my flywheel cracked after hard driving and i have to change it. Now I'm using lightened & balanced flywheel. The car now is still in the workshop for some tuning & servicing, hopefully will get the car back tonight.

Mishap

Today i almost fainted when my brother called me about the loss of his car. But thank god, he managed to find his car back with the help of his friends. The thief didn't managed to runaway with the car or taken out the engine performance parts but we discovered that the door lock and handle are broken. From the analysis, the thief tried to steal the car but the car automatically shutdown by itself ( just a hypothesis ). We were also lucky because the car stopped in front of a hotel and the hotel cctv managed to record the incident and the culprit face. Hopefully the thief will be captured by the authorities after the video analysis has been done.

New Intake Setup

Picture above shows the new intake setup for my engine. From butt dyno, all i can say that the torque at high rpm is much more better but something that i need to take care of is this setup is not suitable for daily driving since it might suck the unwanted things such as stone and so forth. As a precaution i already put some netting in my cold air intake to prevent stones from sucked into the intake.

I'm in holiday right now so i have a lot of time to spend with my machine and this make my hands very itchy to buy stuff. I think i cant stay at home without doing nothing. So i bought an oil catch tank and DIY it at home.

It took me about 2 hours to install this oil catch tank. It looks easy but the hardest part is to find suitable place to put the tank. Since my engine bay is quite full, so i have to take out my standard air-box to fix the tank beside the fuse box. The oil catch tank looks better there than where i put it before ( beside power steering tank ).

Hmm.. Its an eyesore for me to look at the engine bay without the standard air-box. I prefer standard bay looks because i dont want to attract the authorities. They might think that i use the car for illegal street racing. LOL, just kiddin'. Do you guys spot the condition of my cold air intake? It is broken already! Last time i already use performance plug cables for my engine but i sold it to my friend since i'm in the need of money. After that i changed back to standard plug cables and i can feel that my engine response decreases (-.-'') So last week i ordered new performance plug cables for my engine. I made up my mind to choose plug cables from Bosch. Actually i wanna upgrade to NGK ignition wires but since my budget is tight and i need to buy 'other' stuff so i think Bosch Super Sport cables might be enough for me =p

New silicone hoses for my radiator since the old one which is rubber leaks. I recommend this upgrade for those who are in need of replacement since silicone has many advantages over rubber. There is a good chance these will be the last hoses your car will ever need hopefully. You will also be surprised by how soft your stock hoses have become with age.

Different pistons are responsible for the compression ratio increases between 160ps & 170ps B16A and the 10.8 ratio for B16B. Readily apparent is the relatively modest change in piston top between B16A 160ps and B16A 170ps for the 10.2 to 10.4 change. However, the radically different piston top for B16B is very clear from the picture. The increase in compression ratio between B16B from B16A is 0.4.

The cut-outs on the piston top to accomodate for valve lift are basically the same between all three piston. This could meant that B16B camshafts can be installed into both 160ps and 170ps B16A without the need to change to B16B pistons.

On B16B, the inlet ports are manually ported to increase air-flow. The exhaust ports are identical to B16A

B16B intake valve seats are at a different angle to B16A, 45 degrees vs 60 degrees. The intake valves are also different, being lighter and having a thinner valve stem.

On the left are the power curves for B16A 170ps versus B16B. Note the big gain in power after 6000rpm, the VTEC switch-over point between mild and wild cam profiles. The gain at extreme high rpms is readily apparent on the curves.

Various individual specifications for B16B can teach us about the feasibility of various modifications to B16A. For eg, the throttle bore diameter for B16B is identical to B16A at 60mm. This means that enlarged throttle bodies for B16A might not be an optimal mod or that a compromise in power delivery might result, eg loss of low-end power in return for gain in high-end power. Note that B16B has identical low and mid range power as B16A.

As with B18C Spec R, the wonder of B16B is the assurance of a 15 to 25ps gain in power on a B16A provided the tuning done by Honda can be completely replicated. Nevertheless even if only a portion can be duplicated, combining with properly designed aftermarket exhaust, headers, and intake could still potentially realize this 15ps gain.

Btw for those who doesn't know who is Tengku Djan, he is the head of Proton Motorsports (R3) and he is also a Malaysian professional drifter who has taken part in the D1 Grand Prix racing series and others. He has won the 12 hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance race twice in 2005 and 2006. In Malaysia he's called the 'Prince of drift'.

My 'Race Machine'

As promised! In this post i would like to share with you my other ' race machine ' =p. Picture below.

My Mini 4WD

Actually i already kept this machine aka mini 4WD in my store room for about 7-8 years. I can still remember anime that aired during our childhood which is Dash Yankuro. Still remember? During that time i was one of the kid who really addicted to the anime and really wanted to become the 'next mini 4WD racer'. LOL.

I can still remember last time. What i want to achieve is to have the fastest engine from others. I can say that I've spent a lot during that time but i don't regret that =) What the most important this is i can learn about engine , handling , DIY and whatsoever.

Nowadays, I can see that this mini 4WD is very different in design. Not like last time. The body is wider and the design is a bit peculiar. Haha. Maybe, that's just me. After doing some research on it and consult one of my brother's friend , which is very pioneer with this mini 4WD machine said that today's race is not just about horsepower. It's all about handling. What's the point of having a fast machine but in the middle, the machine jump off from the circuit.

By the way, according to my brother's friend, my machine can classified as 'super car' in today's race since the power generated from the motor is high and from the design of the body. But he also said that if i want to compete in today's race, i have to buy a new shell since today's rules & regulation don't approve this kind of shell. Don't know why. Hmmm. Maybe i'll try to consult other mini 4WD racers to confirm this matter.

Hi guys.

Not much update on my car. Other than that, I'm quite busy nowadays, so i didn't really have the time to write anything. LOL. Btw, I just wanna express how happy i am to see 4g93 modification scene in my country is keep on progressing. One of the reason why must be because of the performance parts for 4g93 now is easier to get. Not like before. Most of the performance parts only available for mivec and b-series engines. Now, we can choose which one that we prefer. Either to get an imported branded ones or maybe just local made performance parts. The most important things are we buy something within our budget and the parts are worth it to buy. Don't go for cheap product but in the end, you will suffer more loss. I hope you guys know what i mean.

Currently my mechanic is still working on his new project which is 4g93 with ITBs. All the best with the project. If I have some of free time to see the progress in the workshop, i will post some of the pictures to this blog.

Oh, before i forget, in the next post (possibly) i will post my project in reviving my old racing machine. Stay tuned!

Another good news to 4g93 user. Tomei Motor Co. has just released its new product which is high performance camshaft for 4g91, 4g92 DOHC non-MIVEC and 4g93. Now we have more choices of camshaft other than RPW, Kelford, JUN , Matspeed or Powerzone.

Well , i can say that this is the successor of the "Supra". I Love it! This is a true japanese supercar. Kudos to Toyota!

TRD Clutch & Flywheel For The 4AGE

Hi guys.

Since the current TRD 3 pucks clutch worn out, finally my brother made up his mind to take another set of TRD clutch for his beloved 4AGE engine. But for this time, he chose the full-face organic TRD race clutch and not the 3 pucks design. Pictures below.

He made the decision to choose the full-face design because he founds that the 3 pucks design tends to wear out really fast. A 'no no' for a guy who uses the car as a daily driven car and during weekend track days. Other than that, he also upgraded the stock blacktop flywheel to lightweight ones made by TRD . Picture below.

After the upgrade, i can say the clutch are grippy like the previous 3 pucks design and it wont judder when take off from standstill. The engine also revving 'happily' , thanks to the lightweight flywheel.

The Comparison of MIVEC , VTEC & VVT

This video shows some of the differences between this three famous engine from Mitsubishi , Honda & Toyota. This video discuss about the design and technology that the engines use. The engine that narrator in the video use to compare are 4g92 MIVEC (Mitsubishi), B16 (Honda) and 4AGE 20V (Toyota). All of the capacity of the engine is 1600 cc.

The Return of The Hachiroku

The President of Toyota has revealed the car that will replace the legendary RWD AE86 Corolla or as we all know as 'Hachiroku'. It is due to go on sale towards the end of 2011. The concept car will make its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. For the time being, let's enjoy the pictures of the successor below.

Since it's still a “concept,” Toyota hasn’t revealed much about the FT-86 yet, but from reliable source, it will be powered by a Subaru-derived 2.0-liter boxer four sending power to the rear wheels. Toyota focused on keeping the weight down to improve handling and, according to one source, the platform is unique to the concept.
